When Socrates said that education was not about filling a vessel but it was about kindling a flame, he might as well been quoting from the heart of so many teachers who love their profession. They love it not because it’s easy nor because they want to fill students’ minds with the content of their textbooks. Teachers at Archway Charter School are passionate about kindling the spark in young people’s minds that not only makes connections between ideas, but encourages them to have their own ideas. Our future needs young people who can innovate, take initiative and know how to collaborate and move their communities forward.

Derek Hinckley
Derek Hinckley serves as Archway’s Director of Operations. He lives in Greenwood and has extensive experience working in K12 schools as well as para-school organizations. Derek earned a B.A. in Political Science from Colgate University and has two Master’s degrees (Fine Arts in Political Science & Business Administration).

Ora Lee Smith
Ora Lee Smith serves as Archway’s Director of Admissions. She lives in Belzoni and has served as a lifelong educator in Humphreys County and Yazoo City including roles as teacher, curriculum coordinator, principal, and federal programs to name a few. “Ora vast and diverse K12 experience is a wonderful asset to the school as is her passion to see students succeed and for her to play a part in setting them up for their journey with Archway.” Dave Herndon
